Dear Parents;

I will  like to inform you that I will be contacting  parents this week. If you have any questions I will be happy to answer them. Also,   you could  pick up your child's package at the school office from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. These are activities will be for your child to do classwork at home. It would be a great idea to acquire the rest of the booklets so that your child can use them for classwork and their summer vacation. As you may know school will en on June 20th, 2020.

Also, I would like to inform the parents that I have been making phone call again to find out how the family is doing, and to help you with your concerns about your child's work. Zoom lesson on May 8 at 11:00 AM. The children were divide into four groups. I will let you know your child's group, and when to log into Zoom.


Lessons for May 8, 2020

Pray:  Our Father

Pledge of Allegiance:

  • Ask your child what the colors of the flag means : red means courage; white means peace and purity; blue means justice.
  • How many stars are in the american flag (50).
Calendar:

Vocabulary Words: mother, move, Mary, miracles, muffins, mittens, monkey, money, mouse

  • First, have your child spell May.
  • Then ask him for words with initial sound /m/.
  • Then ask: How many days we have in a week?   What day are we in? What is the date? (Say day, month, number, year) Example: Today is Friday , May 8, the year 2020.
  • Have the children count forward from 1-10, and from 10 to 1.
  • Count in ordinals from 1st- 5th.
  • Have your child sing  "There are Seven Days"

Vocabulary Words: care, love, special

Strategies:
  • First ask your child what special things they do for their mom.
  • Then I will ask: How does your mommy show you how much she loves you? How do you feel when she shows you how much  she loves you and cares for you? What should you do to show you love her too?
  • Then I will explain that Mother's Day is celebrated in May because we show appreciation to Mary our mother too, just like yours.

Phonological Awareness:

Letters X x

Aim:The children will recognize the sound /x/ in words.

Vocabulary Words: excellent, X-ray, fox, box, six, xylophone,

Strategies:
  • Firs, introduce the letters X x with Hello Carrie: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCt7j9LfQ4V-dnTXxqp9GLqA
  • Then ask: What letters are these?(uppercase X and lowercase x) What kind lines do we use to write them? What sound does the letters X and x make? What words in the video have the the X x in? Can you use a words with X x in a sentence?
  • Then ask your child to use words with X x  in sentences.
  • Explain that we slant right from top bottom, and slant left from top to bottom.
  • Then model writing X and x. 
  • Then have your child write uppercase X and lowercase x.
  • Then have your child practice forming X x in the Notebook 3 X each.

Homework: Have your child practice writing Uppercase x in Handwriting Book P. 63



Math:

Explore Nonstandard Measurement

Aim: The children will learn to measure and compare the length of classroom objects.

Vocabulary Words: longer, shorter, measure, length, unit

Strategies:
  • First, will explain to your child that when we measure length we want to find how long or short an object is.
  • Then show him/her an object. Then tell your child that you want o find out the length of the object.
  • Then ask your child where should I start measuring the object  from. (From the beginning of the object on the left side to the end of the object on the right side.
  • Then ask your child to model measuring the object length using any small objects you have available .
  • Then emphasize that the edge of the first object  should line up with the edge of the object and should touch.
  • Then explain  that we can use many things to measure objects, such as paper clip, snap cubes, feet, hands, or whole body.
  • Then have your child measure other object using different units of measurements> Example: paper clip, beans, or crayons.
  • then have your child compare the length of the two objects they measured.
  • Then ask: Which object is the longest? Which object is the shortest? What unit of measurement you use?

Story Time: How to Raise a Mom by Jean Reagan

Aim: The children will demonstrate things we should do for our moms.

Vocabulary Words: help, awake, choices, cranky

Strategies:
  • First, tell your child that in the month of May we celebrate a very special, and that day is Mother's Day.
  • Then explain that in May we celebrate Mary our mother too.
  • Then explain that in this day we celebrate all the mother even Jesus mother who is our mother too.

  • Then ask:Who are the characters? What did the children do to their mother? Why did they do all those things? What would you do to show your mom you love her?

  • Have your child draw or color.
  • Have your child pray every morning.
  • Read to your child every day and ask questions.
  • Help in the daily chores.
