Dear Parents,

Mrs. Claus arrives with the elves to visit students in PreK this Wednesday, December 20th. 

Clothes children need for Lessons and Carols (December 21st):
  • Boys - red turtleneck, black pants, black shoes (no sneakers)
  • Girls - white turtleneck, red skirt, white tights, black shoes (no sneakers or boots)
Children should come to school already dressed in their Lessons and Carols clothes. Lessons and Carols begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Church. Parents are invited. We are also requesting $5 for Thursday's Christmas party. The Christmas Party is only for the children.

School is closed this Friday. Finally, we hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year.  See you all in 2018.

Dear Parents,

Mr. Woods was notified on Friday that OLQM will undergo an audit of ALL students immunization records before December 15th - no exact date was set. This same audit happened approximately 15 years ago. If students did not have immunizations up to date a letter was sent home by the NYSDOH informing the parent that their child COULD NOT RETURN TO SCHOOL until the records were updated.  Alba and Mr. Guzman will be calling parents this week and it must be addressed immediately.


Feast of the Immaculate Conception, prayer Service will be held at 9:00 AM on Friday, December 8th.

Dear Parents,

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Thank you so much for the canned food drive.  A total of 1,187 cans were collected and 12 turkeys were purchased for the outreach program of St. Patrick's Home. The Confirmation Class delivered all the cans and turkeys last Monday, November 20th to the home in time for distribution before Thanksgiving.


This Monday, November 27th, there is noon dismissal. After school program will be in session.

Check your child's cubby to make sure he/she has a change of clothes.

Dear Parents,

Reminder, we have a canned food drive for the St. Patrick's Home outreach program.  The food drive ends on Monday, November 20th.

On Tuesday, November 21st, there will be a music presentation for all Pre-K classes at 9:00 a.m.  Children may come to school in dress up clothes. School dismissal at noon.

Parent-teacher conferences are also on Tuesday, November 21st between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. in the classroom.  There you will receive your child's progress report.

The school will have the Thanksgiving Mass on Wednesday, November 22nd at 9:00 a.m. Students may come in dress up clothes.  We are asking $3 for our Thanksgiving Party.

No school on Thursday and Friday. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE: Children with Allergies and/or Asthma

Dear Parents,

Given the tragic circumstances these last few days of a child who died from allergies, the School is implementing a health protocol.

Children with asthma and/or allergies MUST  have their medical records updated and parents must provide medical records regarding the asthma and/or allergies. 

REQUIRED:

Allergies: An EpiPen for your child at School.  The EpipPen must be in a clear plastic Ziploc bag with your child's name and picture.

Asthma: An asthma pump. Must be in a clear plastic Ziploc bag with your child's name and pictures.

Dear Parents,

This Friday, November 17th, is the school's Mickey and Minnie Birthday Celebration. Students may dress up as Mickey or Minnie Mouse for the day. There will be a costume contest at 1:00 PM. Parents are invited.

Tuesday, November 7th, is Picture Day. Children may come dressed up or in school uniform, but no jeans or sneakers.  School is closed Friday, November 10th.  Mickey and Minnie Mouse dress up day is next week, November 17th.

Noon dismissal on Monday, October 16th. On Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 6:00 p.m., there will be a Hurricane/Earthquake Relief Concert for Puerto Rico/Mexico featuring Bobby Sanabria  & Quarteto Ache. It will take place in the school auditorium. Tickets available in school office: $10.00 adults; $5.00 children. Finally, dress down every Friday if your child brings $1.00.

REMINDER: Leave children at the door.  Breakfast is not allowed after 8:00 a.m.

Dear Parents,

Our class will have their Hispanic Heritage Month presentation on Thursday, October 12th at 9:00 a.m.  Please have the children come dressed up in dress pants and dress shirt or sweater for the boys, and a nice dress for the girls.  Please no denim. Parents are invited.

Ivan will be conducting a fire safety presentation on Friday, October 14th at 9:00 a.m.

We are still collecting hygiene items for the victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.

The annual blessing of domestic animals will occur on Wednesday during the 9:00 AM Mass.  Students may bring animals from home for this blessing. If dogs or cats are being brought to school they must return home with a parent after Mass.

Parents Letter: 9/11/17

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your cooperation throughout the first week of school!

I would like to remind you of the following:

-All school forms are due by September 15th, however, emergency cards are due as soon as possible.

-All school supplies are due this week. I forgot to mention in this list of school supplies a bottle of clorox.

-Please make sure that child has a change of clothes according to season in a ziplock bag with his/her name on it.

-Gym uniforms are to be worn on Wednesdays.

2017-2018 Opening Letter and Supplies to Parents

Dear Parents,

     I am delighted to welcome you and your child to our Preschool Program. Let's work together to make this a joyous growing experience for your child.

    Our program is designed to develop awareness and nurturing of each child's precious spirit. Our program recognizes that our Pre-K students are eager learners even though their social, fine and gross motor skills, language and cognitive abilities are not fully developed.

     This program is designed to meet the individual needs of the early learner and teach children how to share, socialize and function in a group. The group lays the foundation of faith and guides the children in daily prayer and academic activities designed to prepare them for Pre-K second level.

    A typical Pre-K day entails:

  • Opening exercises (Welcome prayer, Pledge of Allegiance, calendar and weather)
  • Religion (lessons via circle time)
  • Math (positions and classifications, comparisons and patterns, number readiness and graphing, numbers 0-20, adding and subtracting, fractions, measurements, geometry)
  • Reading/Language (rhymes, little books, big books, oral language development, phonetic awareness activities, auditory discrimination and listening skills, visual discrimination, knowledge of the alphabet, development of writing activities, beginning print and book concepts, comprehension skills, learning center activities)
  • Science (life science, earth science, physical and body awareness)
  • Social Studies
  • Story time (theme of the week)
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Nap
  • Bathroom
  • Center time

  3. Read calendar carefully for early dismissals;
  4. Send your child’s supplies on time;
  5. Bring Emergency cards on time;
  6. Send homework on time;
  7. If you want to throw a birthday party in the lunchroom, please inform me at least two weeks before the party date;
  8. If you need to talk to me about your child’s progress, you must see make an appointment;
  9. Please, no outside toys and blankets allowed;
  10. Read to your child every night (15 minutes);
  11. Label everything your child brings to class;
  12. Your child must wear a gym t-shirt and jogging pants on gym days (Gym day TBD);
  13. Children should have breakfast every day before 7:45am;
  14. No glass or plastic bottles allowed; juice should be in a juice box or the aluminum packaging;
  15. Full uniform required every day except gym day;
  16. Shoes should have velcro;
  17. No belts for boys; make sure pants fit properly.

Dear Parents,

On Thursday, June 14th at 8:30 a.m. there will be Donuts with Dad in the auditorium.  We hope to see the fathers on Thursday.

There will be no school on Friday, June 15th.

Reminder, our graduation ceremony will take place on June 20th at 11:00 a.m.  Children should be in the classroom no later than 10:00 a.m. already dressed up.  Girls should wear a nice bright cotton dress with sandals. Boys should wear bright polo shirt and bermuda khaki shorts.

Finally, the aides and I would like to thank you for entrusting your children with us and for choosing a Catholic School education.  We loved working with the children, watching them grow and be intrigued by the world around them.  We know we laid a strong foundation of learning and faith to follow them in the years to come.  Thank you.

Dear Parents,

On Monday, May 22nd, there will be early dismissal at 12:00 p.m.  Please support the Lip Sync Contest this Wednesday, May 24th at 5:00 p.m.  Tickets are $5.  For children in the afterschool program, I am able to take children to the show at 5:00 p.m. if you bring $5 for the tickets.

There will be a prayer service on Thursday, May 25th at 9:00 a.m. in the auditorium for Ascension Thursday.  This Friday, May 26th, there will be early dismissal at 12:00 p.m.  School is closed on Monday, May 29th.  Finally, please buy rosary beads for next week

This Friday, May 5th, our class will have Graduation Picture Day.  Please come dressed nicely - NO JEANS.  Girls in a Spring dress.  Boys dress pants, polo shirt or button down short-sleeved shirt.

Thursday, May 4th is Star Wars Day.  Children can come in dressed up as a Star Wars character.  There will not be a costume contest.  Please bring in $1 so we can have pizza for the kids.

Dear Parents,

On Tuesday, April 4th, our class will have a Spring Show at 9:00 a.m. Children should come to school already dressed for the show.

This Thursday, April 6th, is Report Card Day.  It is also the Easter Party. Children come to school dressed up. Please bring in $5 and a bag of soft candy.

On Friday, April 7th, will be noon dismissal.  There will be parent-teacher conferences between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. that day.

This Monday, March 13th, is noon dismissal.  This Friday, March 17th, the school is closed.

We need paper towels, tissues, and baby wipes.  Please have the children practice their names, letters and numbers, counting from 1-10, and identifying numbers 0-10.

For the Easter presentation on April 4th, the children will wear the following: Girls - colorful dress, hat, gloves and a little bag; Boys - dressy pants, dressy shirt.

Dear Parents,

On Tuesday, February 28th, we have Super Kids and Hippie Day.  For Hippie Day, they are able to dress up as hippies or a character from "Happily Ever After," the children's reading program.  Characters may be taken from: "The Three Bears," "Little Red Riding Hood," "La Tortuga," "The Nightingale," and "Hey Diddle, Diddle."  You have any concerns, please speak to me to provide you ideas.

On Thursday, March 1st, is Dr. Seuss Day.  The children may come in dressed up as a character from one of his books.

At 8:00 a.m., we must clean up the room. Therefore, NO BREAKFAST AFTER 8:00 A.M.

Every Friday, children may dress down if they bring in $1.

1/30/17 to 2/3/17

Dear Parents,

This Tuesday, January 31st, is Open House 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Parents are invited to come and sit in the classrooms and watch the teaching/learning that goes on daily in the classrooms.  Also, it is Photo Shoot Day - all students in full uniform - no gym clothes. The regional office will be re-doing the school website in the next few months and they are sending in a professional photographer to take pictures of the students in the classrooms, etc.

Report Cards will be distributed on Thursday, February 2nd.  There is noon dismissal this Friday, February 3rd.  Parent-teacher conferences are between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. in my classroom.

1/23/17 to 1/27/17

Dear Parents,

There will be one parent workshop for all Pre-K parents. It will be held on Tuesday January 24th at 8:00 AM in the school library. The workshop will focus on “Who’s the Boss”. The presenter will be Ms. Annette Castro.  Parents are urged to attend.

On Tuesday, January 31st, is Touring Tuesday and Open House from 9:00 AM -11:00 AM.  Parents may visit classrooms and be part of the teaching/learning.  On Thursday, February 2nd, Report Card will be distributed.

On Friday, February 3rd, is the Feast of St. Blase. Mass will begin at 9:00 AM. Blessing of Throats will take place at Mass. Parents invited.  Also on Friday, February 3rd, Parent Teacher Conferences between 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM.

In Religion, we are continuing Bible Stories.  Children are composing and decomposing shapes in Math.  Children are working on the letters Ii and Jj, and reviewing rhyming words in Reading.  For Science, our class is discussing sand and soil.

1/16/17 to 1/20/17

Dear Parents,

Mr. Woods would like parents to know that there will be no HOT breakfast or lunch served for a number of weeks.  This is due to a gas problem that is being worked on with Con Edison.  Cereals, yogurt etc. will be available for breakfast. Sandwiches, salad and fruits will be available for lunch.  New menus will be available by the end of week as adjustments are made to food deliveries etc.  If you have any questions please see Mr. Woods. Parents should feel free to send lunch with their child if they wish. Mr. Woods will have microwaves available in the lunchroom to heat lunches brought from home to assist parents and students during this transition.

Parents are reminded that the web site has opened for registration. Alba, the school secretary, will also assist any parent in the process and the link is on the school web site of www.olqmnyc.org.

In Religion, we are continuing our Bible Stories.  In Math, the children are learning shapes in the real world.  The children are reviewing the letter Hh and its corresponding sound in Reading.  The class are also discussing soil and sand in Science.

In Math, we will start shapes and their attributes.  In Religion, we will go into Bible Stories.  In Reading, the class will review the story, "The Elf and the Shoemaker".  In Science, the children will discuss polar animals.

Reminder, Faculty Meetings will now take place on Mondays, not Fridays.
