Pre-K1 2014-2015 Welcome Letter and Supplies

Dear Parents,

     I am delighted to welcome you and your child to our Preschool Program. Let's work together to make this a joyous growing experience for your child.

    Our program is designed to develop awareness and nurturing of each child's precious spirit. Our program recognizes that our Pre-K students are eager learners even though their social, fine and gross motor skills, language and cognitive abilities are not fully developed. This program is designed to meet the individual needs of the early learner and teach children how to share, socialize and function in a group. The group lays the foundation of faith and guides the children in daily prayer and academic activities designed to prepare them for Pre-K second level.

The following is a typical Pre-K day:
· Opening Exercises - Welcome Prayer, Pledge of Allegiance, Calendar, Weather
· Religion lesson via circle time
· Language- Nursery rhymes, little books, big books; Oral language development; Phonetic awareness activities; Auditory discrimination and listening skills; Visual discrimination; Knowledge of the alphabet; Development writing activities; Beginning print and book concepts; Comprehension skills; Learning centers activities
· Free Play
· Science – Life Science; Earth Science; Physical; Body Awareness
· Rest Room/Bathroom time
· Snack (No glass bottles, only box juice and no chips)
· Math – Positions and classification; Comparisons and Pattern s; Number Readiness and Graphing; Numbers 0-20; Adding and Subtracting; Fractions; Measurements; Geometry; Measurements; Money and Time
· Story Time - Theme of the Week
· Art/Crafts/Music/Lunch
· Nap (1 hour)

Supplies (Please have everything labeled with your child’s name)
1. 3 folders
2. 1 Pre-K notebook
3. 1 coloring book
4. Child’s baby picture and family picture
5. A change of clothes
6. Clorox wipes
7. Baby wipes
8. A roll of paper towel
9. A can of Lysol Spray
10. Printing/Copy paper
11. 2 Glue Sticks
12. Box of tissues
13. Box of triangular crayons

Reminder
1. Bring your child to school on time (after 8:00 am your child needs a late pass);
2. Bring absent note if your child is absent (IT’ S A MUST!) It is required by the Department of Education;
3. Read calendar carefully for early dismissals;
4. Send your child’s supplies on time;
5. Bring Emergency cards on time;
6. Send homework on time;
7. If you want to throw a birthday party in the lunchroom, please inform me at least two weeks before the party date;
8. If you need to talk to me about your child’s progress, you must see make an appointment;
9. Please, no outside toys and blankets allowed;
10. Read to your child every night (15 minutes);
11. Label everything your child brings to class;
12. Your child must wear a gym t-shirt and jogging pants on gym days (Gym day TBD);
13. Children should have breakfast every day before 7:45am;
14. No glass or plastic bottles allowed; juice should be in a juice box or the aluminum packaging;
15. Full uniform required every day except gym day;
16. Shoes should have velcro;
17. No belts for boys; make sure pants fit properly.
