Dear Parents;

I will  also like to inform you that I will be contacting  parents this week. If you have any questions I will be happy to answer them. Also,   you could  pick up your child's package at the school office from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. These are activities will be for your child to work at home. The addition booklets will be use for homework.

I would like to inform the parents that I have been making phone call again to find out how the family is doing, and to help you with your concerns about your child's work. I'm going to have a Zoom May 1st at 11:00 AM. I will called a group of parents for tomorrow's conference. The ID# is 764-301-9104. The children have been divide into four groups. I will let you know your child's group, and when to log into Zoom.


Lessons for May, 1, 2020

Pray:  Our Father

Pledge of Allegiance:

  • Ask your child what the colors of the flag means : red means courage; white means peace and purity; blue means justice.
  • How many stars are in the american flag (50).
Calendar:

Vocabulary Words: mother, move, Mary, miracles, muffins, mittens, monkey, money

  • First, have your child spell May.
  • Then ask him for words with initial sound /m/.
  • Then ask: How many days we have in a week?   What day are we in? What is the date? (Say day, month, number, year) Example: Today is Friday, May 1, the year 2020.
  • Have the children count forward from 1-10, and from 10 to 1.
  • Count in ordinals from 1st- 5th.
  • Have your child sing  "There are Seven Days"

Feelings

Aim: The children will learn appropriate ways of dealing with our feelings. 

Vocabulary Words: sad, mad, angry, happy, exited

Strategies:

  • First, make a"Feeling Hat" use a sentence strip and a construction paper make a cloud for sad, and  sun for a happy face.
  • Then review  feelings with your child , such as happy, sad, mad, angry, lonely.
  • Then let your child wear their feeling hats, putting the sun if they “feel happy” and the cloud if they feel “sad.”
  • Ask your child to tell how they feel and why.
  • Have your child  think of things that makes he or she happy.
  • Then explain that everyone is happy at times and sad at times.
  • Ask your child to act out different situations.
  • Have your child answer the following questions: How is he feeling today? Why is he sad? What would you do to make your friend feel better? What can you do to change those feelings?
  • Distribute blue and yellow paint to each child.
  • Have your child mix the paint together.
  • Have your child tell how those color make them feel (sad, or sad).
  •  Finally, Summarize what we learned.

Reading:

Main Idea, Make predictions

Aim: The children will listen to "The Ants and the Grasshopper" and will recognize the main idea and make predictions.

Vocabulary Words: main idea

Strategies:
  • First, ask your child to recall what the story "The Little Red Hen" was about.
  • Ask your child what they learned with the from the story.
  • Then help your child realize that unlike the story, there is time when work is important and time when play time is important.
  • Then discuss when is time to work and time to play, such as working on your class work, and playing in the playground.
  • then set a purpose for listening by asking the children to listen to find out what happens next in the story.
  • Remind the children  how listening for clues help them find the main idea.

  • Then I will stop and will ask the following questions to make predictions: Do you think the ants will stop working to play? Do you think the grasshopper will help the ants harvest the food? What do you think will happen to the grasshopper? What do you think will happen to the ants? Do yo think the grasshopper will help the ants when spring comes again? What is the main idea of the story "The Ants and the Grasshopper"? How are the "The Little Red Hen" and "The ants and the Grasshopper" alike? Do you think the grasshopper learn his lesson? Why?

Exploring Subtraction

Aim: The children will learn to identify the equal sign; solve subtraction sentences; subtract from.

Vocabulary Words: minus sign, equal sign, how many are left

Strategies:
  • Firs, ask you child the following questions: What do we do in subtraction? What does the minus sign means? Where do we place the equal sign? Where do we write what is left?
  • Then distribute six crayons to your child.
  • Then I will ask your child to count them.
  • Then  tell your child a subtraction story sentence: There were Alyssa had five crayons. Gave two to Jagr . How many crayons are left? What did you do to solve the problem? What sign tells you to subtract?
  • Then distribute six pieces of candy to your child.
  • Then I will ask the children to count them.
  • Then I will tell your child a subtraction story and have them act out the story problem and write it down: One day Brandon  went to the store to buy candy. He opened the bag and there were 6 pieces of candy.  On his way home he dropped 4. How may did he have? How many he dropped? How many are left?
  • Have the children solve the problem.
  • Ask: What sign to tell you to subtract? What sign tells you how may are left?
  • Repeat the activity, eating different number of seeds and record each subtraction sentence on the white board.

Story Time: The Very Angry Ladybug by Eric Carle

Aim: The children will learn how two ladybugs  dealt with their feelings. 


Vocabulary Words: angry, thank you, aphids, grouchy, flew, share
  • First, review the parts of insects.
  • Then tell your child about the different feelings people have.
  • Then explain that they are going to listen to a story about a very grouchy or angry ladybug.

  • Then Ask:Who are the characters? What did the ladybug wanted? What was the problem? What did the grouchy ladybug wanted? What did she invited the animals to do? Is this the right thing to do?
