Dear Parents;

I will  also like to inform you that I will be contacting  parents this week. If you have any questions I will be happy to answer them. Also,   you could  pick up your child's package at the school office from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. These are activities will be for your child to work at home. The addition booklets will be use for homework.

I would like to inform the parents that I have been making phone call again to find out how the family is doing, and to help you with your concerns about your child's work. I'm going to have a Zoom conference today April 24th at 11:30 AM. I have called a group of parents for tomorrow's conference the ID# is 764-301-9104.


Lessons for April, 24, 2020

Pray:  Our Father

Pledge of Allegiance:
  • Ask your child what the colors of the flag means : red means courage; white means peace and purity; blue means justice.
  • How many stars are in the american flag (50).

Calendar:

Vocabulary Words: apple, alligator, acrobat, ant, astronaut, ax, again, alphabet, acorn 

  • First, have your child spell April
  • Then ask him for words with initial sound /a/.
  • Then ask: How many days we have in a week?   What day are we in? What is the date? (Say day, month, number, year) Example: Today is Monday,  April 24, the year 2020.
  • Have the children count forward from 1-10, and from 10 to 1.
  • Count in ordinals from 1st- 5th.
  • Have your child sing  "There are Seven Days"
Religion:

Review Caring for God's World

Aim: The children will learn ways they can help care for God's creation.

Vocabulary Words: help, care, creation

Strategies:
  • First, ask the children what are some of the things God created for us.
  • The ask your child: What did God created for us? How long did it take to create the earth? 
  • Have your child give suggestions on how we can take care of them.
  • Then explain that God gave us these gifts because he loves us.
  • Finally, ask: Why do we need water, air, sun, land, trees, animals, day, night, and people?



Phonological Awareness:

Aim: The children will listen and discuss the nursery rhyme "Hey Diddle, Diddle".

Vocabulary Words: cat, fiddle, cow, dog, moon, spoon, dish

Strategies:
  • First, tell your child that they are going to listen a rhyme called "Hey Diddle, Diddle".

  • Then ask your child to say the rhyme.
  • Then tell your child that nursery rhymes are fun to listen.
  • Remind your child that some words are not real words: Example" diddle".
  • Then point in the video the word that is not real. (diddle)
  • The ask your child: Who is your favorite character? Why? What silly things happened in the rhyme? 

Math:

 Exploring Subtraction

Aim: The children will learn to identify the minus sign sign, and how to use in subtraction.
 

Vocabulary Words: minus, are left

 Strategies:

  • First, review numbers 0 to 10 with the children.
  • Then l ask what do we do when we subtract. (take away)
  • Then have your child act out subtraction story problem: There were six sheep behind a fence. Two sheep went under the fence and left. How many sheep are still behind the fence?
  • Then ask your child the numbers from the story 6 and 2, then I will write  6 - 2 on the board.
  • Then explain that the minus number comes between the two numbers to show that you subtract the second number from the first number.
  • Then I will have the children act out another subtraction story problem. There were six sheep behind a fence. Three sheep went went under the fence and left. How many sheep are still behind the fence? What does the minus sign tell you? What do you do to solve a subtraction problem? (remind your child to take away the objects out from right to left.
  • Finally, have your child write the subtraction sentence and solve it.

Science:

Conserve Resources

Aim: The children will learn to reuse and taker of our natural resources.

Vocabulary Words: natural resources, conserve, reuse, reduce, air, water, forest, trees, soil, food

Strategies:
  • First, ask the children why we need to take care of our river, oceans, air, and forest.
  • Then ask your child to tell ways we can conserve our resources. (By reusing, reducing , recycling.) 
  • Then ask: What did the squirrel did wrong when he took a shower? What do living things need? What do we need soil, water, air, and forest for? What does conserve means? (Protect something not waist.)

Story Time:

Aim: The children will learn to identify rhyming words.

Vocabulary Words: sing, spring; feet, sweet; bunny, sunny; quack, back; moooo, grew; lane, rain; crow, snow; peep, cheep
  • First, explain to your child that rhyming words have the same sound at the end of the word.
  • Then give examples like: hat-cat, house-mouse.

Aim: The children will learn to solve separating problems by taking away one group from a larger group and count how many is left.

Strategies:
  • Review math vocabulary words.
  • Review how acting out a story, drawing a picture, or counting can help them find the answer.
  • Then present a story problem. Cinderella baked five cupcakes. Her stepsisters ate 2.
  • Have the children solve the problem.
  • Then ask: How many cupcakes Cinderella baked? How many cupcakes her stepsisters ate? How many are left? Hoe did acting out help you solve the problem? (I was able to see the problem.)
  • I will repeat the activity, having different numbers of cupcakes.

Aim: Recognizing rhyming words.

Strategies:
  • First introduce the lesson with "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe."

  • Then tell your child that rhyming words are words that sound alike, except for their beginning sounds. 
  • Tell your child the following rhyming words: two, shoe; four, door; six, sticks; eight, straight; ten, hen; twelve, delve.

  • Then say tow words and ask your child if they sound alike, not.
  • Then if the words sound alike,  tell is him/her is a rhyming word.

Aim: The children will learn about the journey a baby bird takes to find his mother.

    I will be contacting the parents this week. If you have any questions I will be happy to answer them. Also, please pick up your child's package at the school office. These are activities will be for your child to work at home. You could pick up your child's new package at school from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Bring your own plastic shopping bag. Those children who are more advance with the handwriting could work individually with the My Sight Words handwriting Book, and the other booklets. The addition booklet will be use for homework.


    I would like to inform the parents that I have been making phone call to find out how the family is doing, and to help you with your concerns about your child's work. Also we are scheduling a Zoom meeting with the children today at 11:00 AM the ID#764-301-9104.

    Spring Recess will begin on Thursday, April 9th, 2020, and will begin classes on April 20th. We will be posting our daily blog every day until Wednesday the 8th. We will continue posting lesson after Spring Break.

    Aim: The children will learn to accept other differences, and treat them the same.

    • Have your your child describe a rabbit.
    • Then talk about his ears. (Some have their ears up and some down.)
    • The tell your child to listen carefully to the story "Flop-Ear".
    • Then ask to compare the rabbits' ears. 
    • Let you child continue with the story.
    • Then ask:What did Flo-Ears problem? what did he do to straighten up his ear? What did the other rabbits do to him? What did the doctor say to him? What did the other rabbits do to make Flop-Ears feel better? 
    • Finally, explain to your child that God created everyone different, beautiful, and unique.

    Aim: The children will learn identify Q q, R r, S s , and T t.

    Vocabulary Words: quarter, quail, queen, rabbit, ring, soap, sink, table, toe, toy,  tiger,

    Strategies:
    • Have your child identify Q q, R r, S s, and T t and their corresponding sound .
    • Then tell the children that the word queen has the ?kw/ sound;  the letters R r have the /r/ sound; S s has the /s/ sound; the letters T t has the /t/ sound.
    • Give your child of sentences with those words.

    • Then ask What sound does the letters Qq make? What word begins with initial sound /kw/? 
    • Then do the same with the other letters.

    Aim: The children will learn to identify the plus, equal sign, and solve addition sentence with sums to 6.

    Strategies:

    • First, display two addition sentences, one with and one without an equal sign.
    • Have your child tell what is different about the first and second addition sentence.

    • Have your child solve the addition problems on the video game.
    • I your child can not log in, have him use , coins, legos, or crayons.
    • Then have them solve and addition and say. For example: 4 coins + 2 = 6 coins.

    Aim: The children will learn what hibernating animals do when spring is here .
